Gregg Stevenson

GEN UP COACH

GREGG STEVENSON
MBE

Gregg’s commitment to mindfulness and resilience has shaped his path, helping him thrive in the face of adversity. His horrific injury didn’t define him — his response did. Through integrity, and an unbreakable spirit, he turned a life-shattering event into a platform to achieve his goals and help others to achieve theirs.

Gregg served as a royal engineer commando before suffering a traumatic injury in 2009, which led to a double leg amputation.

Despite initial struggles, he worked hard to regain his fitness and pursued opportunities to learn new sports. Rowing became a passion after trying out for the Invictus games in 2018.

In 2019, he spent some time in the GB rowing squad, but an injury forced him to end the season early. He returned in 2023 with renewed energy and along with rowing partner Lauren Rowles would go on to achieve an undefeated partnership that dominated the PR2 category. Resulting in being crowned Paralympic champions in Paris 2024 with a new world and Paralympic best time.

After being discharged from the army, Gregg worked extensively as a mental health practitioner for the NHS veteran-specific service called ‘op courage’, where he played a vital role in developing and improving coping strategies for patient engagement and familiarity.

He is deeply passionate about improving mental health and removing barriers to healthcare access.

Currently, he serves as the armed forces lived experience lead for op courage north, following the completion of his MSC in psychology with distinction. He has also begun a PHD at Manchester metropolitan university, where his research focuses on reducing health inequalities and enhancing rehabilitation services in greater Manchester.

Gregg’s story serves as an inspiration to all, demonstrating the extraordinary strength of the human spirit and the boundless possibilities that arise from resilience, perseverance, and a relentless pursuit of one’s goals.
